Looking good is hard. And not very easy at all. Sweat stinks and tears are ugly to look at in the mirror. It’s all very nice here, but now imagine when it was nothing. Just a huge, barren valley. And empty. Full of possibilities.
Dreams are worth what they are. And in this Matinha valley, they were worth everything. But what was actually done was what added so much more. Alfredo and Mónica dreamed, but the work wasn’t the result of a miracle that God willed. Herdade da Matinha only became people because something was done.
The truth is stark: It costs money to look good. Erecting piles requires method. To build walls, you need strength; you need purpose to know how to nail a screw in the right place.
There is a long road between what didn’t exist and what has become. And now, there’s nothing to be mistaken about, the truth is plain to see: hard work is the means to getting what you want in the end.
This is costly. But the great lesson printed on the walls of this estate is that you always get back what you give. So it pays off. A lot. Infinitely more. Isn’t that how all the fascinating things in this life work?
